I've decided to write my journal entry [on paper] while I'm here waiting for someone to tell me what to do.

Yesterday was my first day at school. It was also my half day. The day I switch between Ikisu Elementary School and Fukashiba Elementary.

Ikisu went alright. I had three classes and one free period. The first class went relatively well except that it was my first class. So I didn't really know what I was doing. I'll have to take a picture of the chalkboard after I'm done (I'll ask later in the year to take pictures of my classes but not until they get to know me, technically its not allowed) .

Basically its my introduction. So my name, where I'm from, what I like to do, and what my family is like. Then I make them do the same. >) (evil happy face)

Yesterday was my second day at Fukashiba and the only full day I'll have there during the week.

I played a version of 'red light-green light' with some kids during recess (This wasn't weird, we're actually encouraged to play with the kids since it inspires them to learn English to communicate with their helpless foreign teachers) and then I made up a Japanese presentation for the Japanese children on the fly in the afternoon.

They actually really enjoyed it though even with my obvious grammar mistakes (the other JTE's refused to correct it for me just saying 'good job! good job!'). We played 'Rock Paper Scissors' as a class. Its actually a really popular game with kids despite its simplicity so I got off on a good foot with them.

I was almost sad to leave at 2 PM for that meeting with Yukiko-san (of the Hitachi Branch). This meeting was to clear up some confusion about the ALT's vs. the new 5th and 6th grade textbook.
Of course the meeting was COMPLETELY in Japanese )
