The last full day we planned to spend at Sentosa Island. It is a very popular vacation spot for both, people from Singapore and the Japanese. For good reason.

Day Three

There were nice beaches all around the island, and two bus lines to take you to different sections of the island.

We took a monorail over to Sentosa and the first place we went to was the Merlion. I had never heard of it before I went to Singapore but it was the symbol of Singapore and of many asian cultures built around the fishing industry.

It took about twenty minutes to finish taking pictures. Of course I shouldn’t complain about waiting because just after that there was a beautiful fountain display and Kate and I spent another 10-15 playing in it and taking pictures.

We had just enough time to pick up our tickets for the Aquarium and ‘Swim with the Pink Dolphins’ program before Mary, Erin, and I had to go and wait there. Michelle and Kate hung around the beaches while we had our lesson.

The only problem was that the life jacket was totally unnecessary for me and even cumbersome. I’m very “buoyant” all on my own so it was very hard to keep my balance in the water while not kicking my feet. The instructor told us it would scare the dolphins away.

I had heard that Mary was afraid of deep water before but I hadn’t make the connection until she grabbed onto me and knocked me over in the water that she was nervous. The instructor yelled at me because my feet came up and I pointed at her. I still gave her a piggyback back to the dock afterwards though. I was so proud that she overcame her fear so that she could participate.

It went differently than I thought it would but it was still an amazing experience to touch a dolphin and see how playful they were. We took turns feeding them, they took us for a ride while we hung on the dorsal fin, and we shook hands. No cameras were allowed in besides the ones they hired so I bought a few prints of our group.

These are a few pictures Mary took of the pictures on display while the staff weren’t looking.

Kate and Michelle joined us for the ‘Meet the Dolphins’ water show afterward. We went to the beach again in the afternoon and after some pleading and looking pathetic, I got Mary and Michelle to join me. Mary especially made me happy, maybe she thought she owed me for the piggyback ride. We got some fun pics.

I got a bad sunburn before the day was through, and after some dinner we ran over to the “Songs of the Sea” show. It was very campy and the story was lighter than air but the light show was amazing. There was an anticlimactic saving of a princess, but there were also fireballs and lasers. Whoever designed it was a genius.

We took the monorail back to the mainland and decided that we wanted to go the Singapore Skyride. Its a gigantic Ferris wheel with a view of the whole city plus the neighboring Philippines. Kate left us to go to a festival in Little India.

We barely made it in time for the last ride but we got a whole large cabin to ourselves. It was really beautiful, of course it was time for another photo shoot.

Next morning we woke up at the 3AM and left by 430 for our 7AM flight. I was half delirious from lack of sleep while Erin jabbered excitedly about stopping at Mary’s first once we got home so that we could all have each others’ pictures.

Completely diabolical.
